Week 3: 10-Game Win Streak!

April 16 - April 22: Seattle sweeps division-rival Montgomery and extends their winning streak to 10 games before losing in extra innings to Kansas City.

  • Montgomery 6, Seattle 8: Edgar Johnson leads off the games with a home run. Montgomery's Chris Collins goes 3-5 with 2 HR. George Sanders comes to the plate with 2 outs in the 8th, bases loaded, and Seattle down 2. He doubles, clearing the bases.
  • Montgomery 7, Seattle 12: Steve Frend and Oliver Davis each hit a pair of home runs and drive in 5. Davis scores 4 runs.
  • Montgomery 4, Seattle 7: Francisco Alfonso hits a 3-run homer to give the Sasquatch the lead.
  • Seattle 6, Kansas City 5: Frend hits a 3-run homer to help Bob Rudyard win his 4th.
  • Seattle 8, Kansas City 7: Salvador Salgado hits a grand slam, and Frend slugs a pair of homers.
  • Seattle 6, Kansas City 7: Kansas City ties the game in the bottom of the 9th with small ball: a single, sac bunt, stolen base, and sac fly. Down again in the 10th, Kansas City again ties the game. The game goes to the 14th, when Scott Walters singles in Stephen Everett to win it for the Tornadoes.
Notes: Frend wins RCL Player of the Week, going 12-24 with 5 HR, 12 RBI, 11 R, 8 BB, and 4 SB. . . . Salgado has an 11-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 17 out of 18 games. . . . Bob Rudyard issues his first 2 walks of the season, ending his no-walk streak at 23 innings.

Next Week: Seattle continues interleague play against the Sparky Anderson division. First the Sasquatch travel to Denver to play the fleet-fielding Mile High Broncos. Then they return home for the toughest matchup of the young season: Maurice Gould and the Las Vegas Jokers.

  1. The Las Vegas match-up appears to be a battle of titans in the ABL so far this year. That will be a great series!
